Chapter 1: Here's To The Forest Of Eternal Sleep

In the forest, its dark, hardly anything can be seen, there's something dark lurking, but I cannot tell what. My white dress flows in the moon's pale light dancing across my skin, almost making me glow, as I try and feel what is sneaking through the trees.

I am its prey, to be hunted, this moment is when I run. I feel the stabs of the twigs and rocks in my feet. The wind gets sharper as i run with the leaves of the trees stabbing my face, sometimes nicking it, but healing immediately.

I finally figured out what was behind me.

The very thing I chose not to become.

A zombie.

Are you confused dear reader? Let me clue you in on what happened so you understand. This is my story and a story like many others, the plague hit, the undead rose, the immortal emerged, what we all thought was nothing but a fairy tale, myths, legends, things you only found in books and movies, became a reality. I was struck with a choice like many others, there were two options; Die from the plague our government spread to start a cancerous disease that would kill you in a matter of days, but they had a "cure".

The thing this disease was supposed to be was an extreme cancer, but the thing they created wasn't a cancer at all, the dead didn't stay dead. They came back, they fed off the flesh of the living, many of America's leaders collapsed leaving our country in tyranny. The so-called "cure" they had didn't work, and only the wealthy could afford it, in their minds the "perfect" way to get rid of the poor and weak, that miserably backfired and killed almost all of them, and this is where I bring you to where I was struck with a choice.

Let the plague kill me and become a flesh eating organism, or become part of the fight back and become a vampire. My choice should be pretty clear saying as your reading my story, all of the survivors stories, I'm writing for everyone faced with this choice who picked the easy way out, for the vampires that died hunting for a cure to lead a normal life, for the way history was rewritten before our very eyes, how our corrupt government destroyed the world as we knew it, and nowhere was safe.

For those of us who chose the life of a vampire, we knew the risk. To clear up some things since I'm sure you're asking how could you feed if there are no living organisms to feed off of? Let's just say that was the only thing that stayed human within us besides our way of thinking or emotions. We can eat the same as our normal human selves and be ok, if ok is even a word to use right now. The cure the American leaders found only needs some tweaking. If shot into the atmosphere every zombie would drop dead, and cure the vampires, one issue though, none of us know where the "cure" is, or if it even exists. I believe there is one and we will search far and wide for it. The problem is time and we are being killed off rather quickly.

How, you ask? There is a twist here if a zombie bites us, we are goners. If we bite them we can see their past and all of their memories, the issue with biting them is trying to make sure they don't bite us in the process.

Can't you save them along with yourselves? There is no time, they chose this path, they must walk it. Yes, it's harsh, the truth is living in this reality is harsh and all of us vampires believed there was a chance for survival a chance to live "normally" again, they didn't believe it or took the easy way out.

How can they change you but you can't change them? There's something in the DNA strands with the virus that gives them I guess you can say an indestructible nature unless torn to shreds. Ours are meant for changing the living (zombies are undead, not living. not dead.) this is why I said we were all faced with a choice.

Now that you are clued into what has happened and is happening, I hope you continue to read this story of my survival as well as my friends, continue to journey with me, because what you are reading right now is a diary, my diary, my life story and how life as we know it was destroyed, if you're reading this it means we succeeded and you need to know what to do just incase something like this happens again, you know my choice, this is why you are alive, if you are alive you are probably a child grandchild or great grandchild of a survivor of this war, continue reading and you may survive, you will know how to tap into your vampire side. How am I a vampire? Didn't you cure us?

Yes, and No. Yes, you are cured, no because your vampire traits have been laid dormant until further needed. We all wanted to fully get rid of this curse, the thing is if we did there would be no hope for a future hopefully as bright as yours can be. Good luck and I will write soon.
